Question: Does pollution in our ground water finds its way into our plants?

Materials:

  • water

  • 2 glasses

  • 1 stalk of celery

  • white carnation

  • food coloring

  • measuring cup

Procedure:

  1. Pour 1 cup of water into each glass.

  2. Add 20 drops of food coloring into each glass.

  3. Cut off bottom of stems of celery and carnation.

  4. Place celery in one glass and carnation in the other.

  5. Leave for a few hours.

  6. Examine the plants to see if the "pollution" has moved up through the plants.

Conclusion: 

  1. Observe the celery and carnation.

  2. Has there been a change in their appearance?

  3. Could pollution in our water supply do the same thing to the foods we eat?
