KS1: 5 - 7 YEARS OLD

UNIT 2E - Forces and Movement -Year 2

How much force do you apply and how far does something then travel?

On the site you could discuss Newton's Cannon and the idea that if you could apply enough force - the cannonball would orbit the Earth.

Discuss Galileo's ideas about dropping objects. Which object will fall faster?

This piece of film on the internet might prove interesting:

as would the Guinea and the feather virtual experiment.

Another excellent activity is to take an old chalk board off the wall and prop it up on the floor near the children.

Ask them if it will make a noise? They usually say "yes!". Then count down to letting it drop on its side. Ask the children nearest the event what they felt/ saw....

Another good activity is rolling cars down ramps and measuring the weight of the cars; height of the ramp; length of the roll etc.

Here's a good website for this:

As in the last unit - you could use this movie and get the children to write a vocabulary word list.
