Taking Pictures in a School Setting.
Before leaving the classroom. If students are sent out in a group to take pictures, here are some procedures that can be used for the group activity. Before leaving the classroom for a photo shoot, first get a log ready of the light settings that will be tried. Each log should contain, the f-stop setting, the shutter speed, a short description of the subject and lighting conditions. Click here for a printable log.
Make sure to be comfortable with the controls, that is know how to increase or decrease the light inside the camera. Students should successfully pass a quiz on f-stop, shutter speed settings, and the camera's light meter feedback mechanism before taking pictures outside the classroom.
Cameras should be checked out like a library book before leaving the graphics lab. Students should insure the camera is in working order before leaving the room. If there are any questions, talk with the teacher.
When taking pictures outside the classroom. Students should stay in their group, should conform to all code of behavior rules that the school has in place. The team should go only to areas specified ahead of time. While arrangements have been made ahead of time for other classrooms to be photographed, students should still ask permission before entering a classroom. Ask permission to take pictures, and only take pictures of individuals who grant permission. Students will explain that the photos will not be published but are simply a class assignment.
Students should not go outside the building at any time. Students will treat the cameras carefully and use them correctly. The cameras must be put back in the hands of the instructor when the photo assignment is complete. Students must be back in class at least 10 minutes prior to the end of class.  :
